Another update from me. So while I have been studying and waiting to hear back from some potential employers, I have done some thinking about the future. First, where do I want to work and live (and possibly get a graduate degree). The two cities I could envision myself being successful and satisfied (as well as career opportunities abound) would be Seattle and San Francisco. I based my decision on a few variables: weather, prevalent insurance and financial sectors, schools and people. Although I don’t want to go into details right now, within two or three years I will be in these locations – hopefully.
Second, I have been seriously considering Southern Methodist University’s Master of Science in Finance (it’s unfortunate that the M.S. in Statistics has no financial aid) if becoming an actuary proves to be difficult (I hope not). The location of the school is prime as well as the manageable renting market and let’s not forget the booming Dallas economy and the hotbed of opportunities in the financial sector. So, I will turn in an application for the November deadline for the first round considerations and I shall see how that goes. I want to truly thank SMU for subsidizing the application fee to the program.
